Our Kingfisher
Eisvögel können mit etwas Glück und Geduld dank Renaturierung und grossem Einsatz des Naturschutzzentrums und Ornithologen häufig beobachtet werden. Dieses Eisvogelweibchen erkennt man gut am orangen Unterschnabel.
Striped Kingfisher
1st time encounter with a Striped Kingfisher. Very exquisite blueish feathers on the back, again I have no names for that specific color.
Pied Kingfisher
This Pied Kingfisher is perched right in front of 2 Cattle Egrets upon a small river near Lake Manze.
Grey-headed Kingfisher
Portrait of a Grey-headed Kingfisher, the red bill open, perched in a bush.
Fat prey
Female Brown-hooded Kingfisher squeezes in its red bill a 30cm lizard still alive.
The Giant
"A spectacular massive kingfisher" (Birds of East Africa, p.222) that can grow up to 43cm!
Malachite Kingfisher
Top portrait of this tiny little bird - the colourful Malachite Kingfisher with a nice green background. Very large formats available!
Pied Kingfisher hovering
The pied kingfisher's hovering phase lasts between 3 to 5 seconds - just enough to find the kingfisher through the lens, focus and release the shutter :-)
Pied Kingfisher at sunrise
Hovering in the very first daylight in the Masai Mara this Pied Kingfisher is ready for breakfast.
